Windows update cannot currently check for updates

Are you experiencing the following error message?

“Windows update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running you may need to restart your computer.”

If so, then here is a possible fix that is tried and tested on Windows 7, but it will also work on other versions of Windows.

The fix is a simple 4 point process:

– Stop the Windows Update service from Administrative Tools/Services.

– Delete all files and folders in the following directory: C:/Windows/SoftwareDistribution.

– (Re)start Windows Update from Administrative Tools/Services.

– Run the Update Service.

You should no longer received error message.
